Today I’d like to talk about Business Model You. A creative and powerful way to help you align personal & career aspirations.
The topic has a place in this (skills development) video blog, because knowing how to reinvent a career and lifestyle is an essential component of any skills set today.
This blogpost was created specifically for a training day animated by Business Model You author Tim Clark in February 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland.
This event has now passed. But please watch the cool 2.5 minute video clip if you wish to discover more about Business Model You.
And if you have a little more time, keep on reading the description after the video window. It gives you valuable information about the Business Model You approach and some really useful documents to download.
As a next immediate step, please check out our 2 hour Create Your Very Own Online Business workshops or contact me (Doris Edwards) to find out more about where (in the world) Business Model You trainings are taking place, offline or online. doris[@]SoYouWantAChange.com

Most of us dream of a new career or life path at one moment or another in our lives. We all do.
But often we don’t know where to start and then, the sheer complexity of the undertaking overwhelmes us and makes us fearful; …enough not to rock the boat and leave things as they are.
A business model is an excellent framework by which to describe, analyse and reinvent a career. As the term suggests, it ordinarily describes businesses.
In the Business Model You approach, you’re invited to consider yourself as a one-person business.
Looking at ourselves as a one-person business – even if we’re an employee - helps us ask questions we might otherwise not consider relevant.
For example:
1. Who is my Customer?
2. What job does the Customer need to have done?
Such questions help us define and modify a personal business model – the way we engage our strengths and talents to grow personally and professionally.
During the one day course animated by Tim Clark, the book’s author, you learn how to “play” with 9 building blocks. Together, the 9 building blocks form a useful tool: the Business Model Canvas.
(Click on the image above to be redirected to the Business Model Canvas download page.
You need to sign up first, but it’s free.)
Rather than constructing ideas with many words – which tend to make things more complicated than they really are – the canvas is a support that helps you see things visually. Grab pencil and sticky notes, and stick and unstick your thoughts and ideas as they evolve. Without being a prisoner of words, sentences and paragraphs.
And what’s more, because the canvas is so visual, you’ll find that sharing and discussing it with others comes easy.
If you’re not ready for the course, download the original canvas for free on the BusinessModelYou web site; start playing with it right away. And while you’re at it, you may as well preview a number of pages of the BusinessModelYou Handbook. Click on the icon here below; the very same as is positioned on the left sidebar of the BusinessModelYou Homepage.
Tip! Check out stories of change in the Handbook. The examples are motivating. Let yourself be inspired – because you too can reinvent your career as these people did!
